Manufacturer integrates impact protection and cutting-edge collision-prevention technology within a single group
Boplan is acquiring the Ghent-based technology company Lopos. With this acquisition, the Belgian manufacturer of plastic safety solutions is adding active warning technology for collision prevention to its existing range of impact protection products.
For more than 25 years, Boplan has been protecting people, machines, buildings, and infrastructure from the consequences of collisions. With Lopos, the group is now adding an important preventive layer to that protection. Lopos was founded in 2019 as a spin-off from imec and Ghent University and develops cutting-edge technology that helps prevent collisions in industrial environments.
Xavier Ramon, CEO of Boplan: “The future of industrial safety does not lie in choosing between prevention and reactive protection, but in combining the two. By joining forces with Lopos, we are creating a unique and integrated safety offering within our group that helps customers avoid risks, reduce incidents, and provide maximum protection for people, machines, and infrastructure.”
With this acquisition, Boplan is not only bringing a specialized technology company into its fold, but also the expertise, innovative capabilities, and intellectual property behind Lopos’ solutions. This creates new opportunities to address risks in warehouses, logistics centers, production environments, and other industrial sites in an integrated manner.
Lopos will maintain its market position and continue to serve existing and new customers. As part of Boplan, the company will now be able to scale up its technology more quickly and roll it out internationally.
Lorenz Hertoghs, CEO of Lopos: “By becoming part of Boplan, we can further accelerate our ambition: to develop technology that makes industrial work environments safer and reduces the costs of damage caused by collisions. We will maintain our focus on innovation, technology, and customer-centricity, while also being able to rely on Boplan’s international presence, market knowledge, and execution capabilities.”
Just like the recent integration of Celtiplast, the acquisition of Lopos is also in line with Boplan’s long-term strategy. This strategy focuses on targeted investments in technology, AI, and expertise; greater control over key parts of the value chain; and new opportunities to support customers worldwide with high-performance, future-proof safety solutions.
