Extension of engineering and consulting firms

Data collection in the field. It's daily business for VWB the Field Office. The firm sees itself as the extension of an engineering and consulting firm. Thanks to its unique approach and broad portfolio of services, the Fieldwork Bureau performs combined data collection as much as possible to minimize inconvenience and costs.

The Field Office consists of two operating companies: VWB Soil and VWB Geogroup. "We specialize in acquiring data in the field for the further development of that site," begins director Guido Hartkamp. "In doing so, VWB Geogroep focuses on geodetic issues, while VWB Soil focuses more on environmental, soil mechanical and geotechnical research. The strength of our company is that we do as much combined research as possible, and in this we are fairly unique. Years ago, one had as many as five or six inconveniences from on-site activities; we can perform virtually all investigations in one pass and make the best use of the investigation results. We can also use a boring for environmental soil research for geotechnical or archaeological soil research, for example. This saves on road closures, for example, and above all gives a lot of peace of mind."

The Fieldwork Bureau works in the Netherlands primarily for the major engineering and consulting firms

Sea Lock

In the Netherlands, the Field Office works mainly for the large engineering and consulting firms. Hartkamp gives some examples. "We did all the data collection for the reconstruction of a major N-road near Zaandam. This ranged from site scanning to geotechnical and environmental soil testing. For an engineering firm working on the reconstruction of a lock complex  we acquired both geodetic and soil data using acoustic Sub-Bottom Profiling systems, sonar and 3D scanning equipment to various borings and soundings for various purposes (NGE, geotechnical and environmental), among others. Based on that data and surveys, the engineering firm can move forward with planning for the reconstruction. We also have people running for the sizing of the Sea Lock at IJmuiden and the reconstruction of the Afsluitdijk. So we are rightly active throughout the country. Depending on the request, we supply raw data, data where an initial check has been carried out or fully developed drawings."
