Strong in customization

With almost ninety years (!) of experience, ELM Construction Machinery knows the ropes. The total supplier for the earth-moving and demolition industry has been responsible for the sales and service of the world brand Doosan for the South-West Netherlands region for many years. What makes ELM truly unique is that the Waddinxveen-based company also develops completely customized machines or boom configurations. An interview with director Sander de Regt about two new demolition models.

Doosan supplies machines with a choice of a standard range of boom configurations. "Often that just doesn't fit our customers' intended operations," De Regt knows from experience. "We have considerable experience in cab or boom modifications and also always have several new (semi) long reach excavators in stock for sale or rental. In addition, we are constantly working on our own developments, also in the demolition sector. Versions with high tracks for more ground clearance, widened undercarriages for more stability to work at great heights with crushers or other attachments, and so on."

Demolition Machinery

ELM Construction Machinery is currently working on two new developments for the demolition industry. "We know the market inside out and are constantly responding to the latest trends," states De Regt. "What we see now is that there is an increasing demand for smaller machines, in order to be able to do well in inner-city areas as well. For example, we are now converting a Doosan DX140LCR-5 (15-tonner). This machine has compact dimensions, is a so-called inside-turner (no protruding rear end) and can work at a maximum height of 15 meters with a tool weight of 1,000 kilograms. There are also plans to make this machine electrically powered at a later stage," De Regt reveals. At the other end of the spectrum, a large demolition machine is being developed. "The Solution B is basically an ETEC 888 and equipped with a boom quick-change system so that different boom configurations can be used. There is also a choice of various types of (hydraulically extendable) undercarriages. The machine has a weight of 90 tons and a maximum working range (including extension) of 36 meters with a tool weight of 4,000 kilograms. With the 3-piece standard main boom including extension, the reach is 22 meters and the tool weight is 6,000 kilograms. A gigantic machine that is fully customizable."

ELM Construction Machinery expects to deliver the new machines before the end of this year. Both machines can already be ordered. The delivery of the compact machine will start around the summer, the modified ETEC 888 will follow in the fall. According to De Regt, interest has also already been shown from abroad in these new machines.
