In the year 2000, Geert Steen, assisted by his wife Ria Degrauwe, founded his own company in Zedelgem, West Flanders: Steen Elektriciteit. From the very beginning, industrial electricity works were the core business. Meanwhile, the second generation is already fully active in the family business: children Delphine and Laurens, together with his wife Tsarina Vandekerckhove. "Steen Elektriciteit is an installation company that focuses on industrial electricity works," Tsarina Vandekerckhove explains. "Here we carry out the most diverse projects from A to Z, from the first customer contact to the final realization. Think of the total installation of cabling, the installation of medium-voltage cabinets, the installation of distribution boards, the installation of lighting, sockets and WiFi points ... you name it."

Beautiful projects

Steen Electricity places a high priority on outstanding quality, as well as optimal communication. "We obviously attach great importance to good, clear and honest communication with the customer, but just as much to the other contractors on the site," Tsarina Vandekerckhove clarifies. "After all, smooth cooperation is to everyone's advantage." Partly because of this, Steen Elektriciteit can look back this year on numerous fine industrial projects, such as at Moderna in Izegem, Dupon Biscuits in Torhout, European Container Services (ECS) in Zeebrugge, Warehouses De Pauw (WDP) in Evergem ... 

Soenen Corrugated Cardboard

Hooglede-based company Soenen Golfkarton, which specializes in the production of corrugated cardboard, is expanding and building an impressive new factory of up to 132,500 square meters in Lanklaar. Main contractor Vulsteke Bedrijfsgebouwen called on Steen Elektriciteit for the electrical installations in the new halls. "In this project, too, we were happy to provide everything from start to finish," says Tsarina Vandekerckhove. "Think of the installation of eleven transformers, bus bar connections, various electrical signs, placement of supply cables, power supply in the shed and the final lighting. Of course, we assist the client with our technical knowledge throughout the duration of the site and proactively search for possible optimizations." So the figures in this project speak volumes: 6 kilometers of cable ladders, 1,627 highbay and 665 hermetic luminaires, 26 kilometers of power cables and 19,000kVA. "As for the ladders, we manufactured custom consoles in-house to meet the customer's requirements. Also, the 11 general low-voltage boards and the various distribution boards were made in our own workshop."

Futureproof

Steen Electricity is currently making every effort to make its infrastructure completely future-proof. "We are making significant investments in renewing our fleet with brand new, well-equipped vans and state-of-the-art scissor elevators," Vandekerckhove said. "We are also creating additional storage space for our ever-expanding product range and strengthening our administrative staff to be able to assist and relieve our many customers even better in the future." Because Steen Electricity obviously also attaches a great deal of importance to ecology and sustainability, the company will further improve its energy efficiency through the installation of numerous solar panels on company roofs. "Our other future plans are to continue along the path we have chosen," said Tsarina Vandekerckhove. "So we will further focus our business strategy on various industrial projects where we can live up to our expertise and know-how and satisfy customers. It is our ambition to make Steen Electricity grow even stronger into an established value within the industrial market."
