Contractor helps with goals in sustainability agenda

How can we work more sustainably? That question is central every day at Van Gelder. They noticed this recently in Betondorp Amsterdam, where a new excavator, the eco-digger, has been introduced. The fully electric excavator is used for various work on above-ground and underground infrastructure. The eco-digger reduces noise and emissions.

For the City of Amsterdam, Van Gelder carries out major road works in various projects. In the Cooperation Agreement, improving the quality of public space while innovating and making it more sustainable is a very important aspect. 'As Van Gelder, we have provided concrete examples in the plan to ensure that Amsterdam achieves the targets in the 2025 sustainability agenda,' the management said.

A smart and clean city

'By using sustainable equipment, such as electric machines like the eco-digger, we are working with the City of Amsterdam to create a smart and clean city. The Betondorp Amsterdam project involves working in a limited space, which means that emissions from diesel machines linger much longer. With our fully electric excavator, we limit those emissions.' Emissions are also reduced with transportation to and from Amsterdam. 'From Van Gelder, the equipment is supplied with blue diesel. By using blue diesel and using electric equipment, our work in Amsterdam is the first project to be 100% fossil-free.'
