Human and environmental focus

The concepts of People, Planet and Profit (3P) give substance to sustainability in public space. Consultancy and engineering firm Prommenz takes people as its starting point. 

The name says it all. At Prommenz, people are central. Project manager Laurens Kalwij: "We work from the 3P concepts. Our work is all about sustainability and the people behind a project, from driver to local resident." Prommenz is active in four areas of work: Space & Development, Infra, Dimensioning and Environment. The consultancy and engineering firm in Schagen offers services in every project phase, from environmental research and development of spatial plans to work preparation, management and supervision of civil engineering projects. Because the company stands alongside the client, practical solutions for public space are offered with attention to the environment.

For example, a contract for circular, noise and CO₂-reducing asphalt, because the demand these days is to reuse as many construction flows as possible in new projects. Kalwij: "We make sure that the client gets a nice advice that is translated into a demand in the market (contract)."

Prommenz works according to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), to better design public space. Many clients have committed to this through Sustainable GWW 2.0. One tool used is Ambitionweb, in which the sustainable ambitions of a project are determined by theme. Together with the project team, the ambitions and opportunities of a project in this area are determined. These are translated into functional requirements for RAW and UAV-gc contracts. DuboCalc is also used. A tool used to calculate sustainability and environmental costs of design variants of GWW works, in order to compare solutions. The CO₂-performance ladder is prescribed in contracts. Ultimately, this leads to a design and contract that reflects the client's sustainable ambitions.

"We provide advice to clients, but we also regularly work for contractors. During plan development, tenders and the implementation phase, we provide advice on environmentally friendly solutions," Kalwij concludes.
