Manitou is red ... but also green!

The Manitou Group recently came out with an ambitious target: the group wants to reduce its carbon emissions by as much as 46% by 2030, while the C0² emissions of the machines it produces must fall by 34% per running hour in the same time frame.

In line with the Manitou Group's objectives, Manitou Benelux, together with partner Plant C, has invested in the planting of nearly 400m of hedge on the grounds of "La ferme du Ponceau" in Perwez (B). The hedge, which consists of a mix of local hedge plants and trees, will neutralize 29 tons of CO² emissions on an annual basis.

The choice of the local project was deliberate: supporting local, family farming is an important signal in today's times. In addition, the hedge contributes to local biodiversity, and promotes animal welfare because of the shade it provides for cattle. Moreover, this action is highly visible to Manitou Benelux staff, as the land is located close to the offices.

Initiatives were also undertaken in previous years to reduce the company's carbon footprint. "CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) is an important theme within Manitou Benelux. In the past, among other things, we have installed solar panels, greened our company fleet and worked to reduce waste. It is our intention to continue to develop initiatives in the coming years," said general manager Stefaan Forret.

For 2022, Manitou Benelux foresees a project in which, together with its dealer network, it will further commit to local actions to further reduce its ecological footprint.
