Last week, he has already worked the necessary hours to see how the mobile excavator performs. Gert is 39 years old and started working as an operator when he was sixteen years old. This gives him the necessary experience and he is therefore a suitable operator to test the Doosan DX165W Electric for us.

No more diesel

''Quite honestly, I thought; do I really need to be on that electric excavator? Let me be on a diesel. But it really doesn't disappoint me at all. I have to admit that. It's actually a very fine machine, which sometimes even runs better than a diesel. The only thing I didn't expect but that can still be further developed is the sound. When you are outside it's not too bad, but inside the cabin it needs to be better isolated. But the machine picks up very quickly and runs well. You are really going in the right direction, Gert says.''

Battery capacity and charging

''Right now I can do almost two days with it, but we are not shoveling all day. I can imagine when you do shovel all day that the battery would run down a little faster. I notice when I have to drive a lot from job to job that the battery dies a little faster too. But I would still be able to use it for at least a day. At the end of my work day I just plug it in and it charges. Super easy, just as you charge a Tesla on a quick charger I do the same with the Doosan DX165W Electric. It really takes less time than refueling because now it's just plug it in and I can go home. On the way from job to job, you just have to keep an eye on the meter, because with a diesel, you just put in a jug of diesel and you're on your way again. So you have to keep an eye on where the charging point is.

Strength as it should be

''The machine really does what you would expect from a mobile excavator. The power of the Doosan DX165W Electric is nothing like a diesel. For me, it takes some getting used to and feeling. It just runs really nice, though. I would like to mention more points but I can't think of any. It is the first prototype and I understand that you are developing it again, but this is really promising. The switch from diesel to electric is really not as bad as I thought it would be.
