Denmark's Rohde Nielsen A/S is known as a global dredging contractor. Projects performed by this Dane include maintenance dredging of ports and waterways, port development, offshore dredging and, of course, beach and foreshore replenishment.
Rohde Nielsen A/S has a modern fleet of more than 40 purpose-built, versatile vessels equipped with the latest technology, operating around the world. Hans Nicolaas, Area Manager at Rohde Nielsen A/S: "All the ships have names from Norwegian mythology. So does the hopper Njord R. Njord is the God of sea, weather, wind and fire, and therefore very appropriate," Nicolaas believes. "The vessel, a sleek, split hopper dredger, is intended for global operations and is probably the largest and most versatile split hopper ever built! Therefore, when placing a load of sand for foreshore replenishment, it can be done very precisely and with high compaction, a method that is increasingly required. The vessel is specially designed for use in shallow waters, ideal both for maintenance of navigation channels and harbors, beach replenishment and land reclamation projects. With very high efficiency, relatively low energy consumption and a very high number of workable days, our vessels are versatile."

Danish ships are also a familiar sight in Dutch waters. Sea level rise, subsidence and structural coastal erosion require vigorous management of our sandy coast. That is why Rijkswaterstaat engages Rohde Nielsen A/S for eco-friendly restoration and preservation of our Dutch coastline. Nicolaas says several replenishments have already been carried out to the client's complete satisfaction. "Our trailing suction hopper dredgers have already moved millions of cubic meters of sand to the coastline at various locations in our country. Now, too, we are once again at work along the Dutch coastline."
"Last year we celebrated our 50th anniversary. Quite an achievement," Nicholas believes. "You only achieve that when you offer the best service and quality at an affordable price. That's how we like to work. As a company and with our customers. But also with respect for the environment in which we work as well as the environment." Looking to the future, Nicolaas sees an increasing emphasis on the sustainability aspect. "As the largest independent dredging contractor in Scandinavia, with dredging projects all over the world, we invest in training, machinery and technology. But of course we are also looking at what is going on and what we can contribute in terms of sustainability."
