Jost signs letter of intent for 50 electric tractors from Mercedes-Benz Trucks

Jost just signed a letter of intent to order 50 electric tractors from Mercedes-Benz. The battery-powered eActros LongHaul has a driving range of about 500 kilometers and will go into production in 2024.

Jost

Jost, one of the largest transport companies in Belgium, provides road and multimodal transport to and from Europe and North Africa. The group develops customized logistics solutions that combine complexity, efficiency and business aspects to best serve customers.

Jost makes every effort to minimize the environmental impact of its activities by monitoring CO₂ emissions and the consumption of fuel, water, energy and raw materials, by limiting waste production and by promoting reuse and recycling. Jost selects its partners, suppliers and subcontractors based on criteria that take into account ecological aspects and sustainable procurement (good environmental practices and/or provision of environmentally friendly goods and services). In this context, Jost confirmed its intention to order fifty units of the battery-powered eActros LongHaul.

The Mercedes-Benz eActros LongHaul

The development engineers at Mercedes-Benz Trucks are designing the eActros LongHaul in such a way that the vehicle and all its components meet the same sustainability requirements as the comparable conventionally powered Actros for long-distance transport. Specifically, that means 1.2 million kilometers over a ten-year period. The battery cells of the eActros LongHaul use lithium iron phosphate (LFP) technology. They are distinguished primarily by a long service life and greater useful battery capacity. At charging stations with an output of about a megawatt, the batteries in the production version of the eActros LongHaul allow from 20 to 80 percent charging in much less than 30 minutes. The three battery packs offer a total installed capacity of more than 600 kWh and the two electric motors, which are part of the new e-axle, generate a continuous output of 400 kW and a peak output of more than 600 kW.

In addition to the tractor unit, Mercedes-Benz Trucks will also produce box truck versions of the eActros LongHaul from the market launch. This will provide customers with a purely electric transport solution for the most diverse usage scenarios.
