In this episode of "Between the Theses," host Jerry Helmers talks with Kay Mullenders, Managing Director at Haagh Protection. And it's not just any conversation.
In fact, we talk about (technical) safety in the workplace. Right at the beginning of the podcast Kay talks about a terrible accident some years ago in Germany. An accident that could have been prevented and the impact that accident had on all employees of that company. The big question of course was (and is!) whether this accident, in which an employee fell from a small height and died from his injuries, could have been prevented.
According to Kay, there's a lot you can do to prevent the risk of an accident - such as a fall, for example - but it's all about awareness on the part of employees themselves and certainly on the part of company directors/owners.
For example, do they really know what 'safety' is or does something have to happen first before the awareness sets in that measures might have to be taken? Kay also addresses the question of whether security costs (much?) money. And more importantly, how do you as a company know exactly what security you need to prevent every possible accident.
In addition, Kay takes an interesting look into the future. What developments can be expected to increase workplace safety? We also touch on laws and regulations or ... is and will preventing terrible accidents always be the responsibility of the employer?
In short ... a stimulating - but definitely also serious and therefore sometimes unfortunately uneasy - podcast about (technical) (un)security within companies. For every CEO, manager, director, executive who knows that an accident is in a small corner but that you have to secure that small corner as well as you can.
