The love of the trade was instilled in them both. And they are both eager to put their newly acquired knowledge and skills into practice. While Kevin Price has already entered the job market as a groundwork contractor, Soufian Duck is busy with the final stretch towards a job in (installation) technology or road construction.
Kevin Price (20) was taken by his father as a young boy to explore the world of civil engineering. He really liked it. "Fascinating and varied work, being outside, usually good weather in the summer and always having people around you... I knew early on that I too wanted to go into infrastructure," he says. Kevin recently successfully completed his BBL training at InfraVak. With the diploma All-round Vakman GWW level 3, he has a nice baggage to be successfully active in the industry. For now, he is working as an earthwork contractor at NTP Infra in Enschede. The knowledge gained at InfraVak comes in very handy. "InfraVak is 100 percent focused on infra. In addition, the emphasis is on practice. An excellent combo," believes Kevin, who is ready to further explore the infra sector. "In the coming time I want to gain more knowledge about the work. And after that, we'll see. In the long run, the position of foreman or assistant superintendent looks like something I would like."
Soufian Duck (17) is also proof that good example follows good example. He is currently in the examination year of the four-year framework vmbo engineering course at Lentiz|Life College. He is taking the optional subject Infra, which takes him one day a week at training institute SPG Zuid-Holland. "Through SPG I mainly gain the necessary practical knowledge," Soufian says. "This is done with a lot of freedom, enough room for own initiative and in different technical areas. Right now I'm doing an internship at the Zuid-Holland Infra Park. Physically quite heavy work, but very attractive and challenging. Later this school year internships will follow at other companies. You can then choose which corner you want to be active in." In Soufian's case, a light will definitely be shed within installation engineering. "My father works in this industry," he laughs. "His stories got me excited about this profession. But whatever it will be, after my studies the chances of getting a job are high. After all, the course is broad in scope and offers opportunities in various directions."
