The focus of warehouse safety is shifting. It’s no longer just about protecting a rack, a corner, or an aisle, but about creating a safe and logical flow throughout the entire work environment. Boplan, a Belgian manufacturer of industrial safety solutions, sees this evolution every day at logistics sites and in production environments. "Safe warehouse design starts with the question of how people, vehicles, and goods move through a site," says Twan den Hartog, general manager of Boplan Netherlands.
In many warehouses, risks arise in areas where different traffic flows intersect: forklift routes next to pedestrian zones, machines near passageways, workstations near internal transport routes, or loading and unloading zones with heavy traffic. In such environments, visual markings alone are not sufficient. Physical barriers that guide behavior, clearly demarcate risk zones, and protect the infrastructure are therefore necessary.
That is why Boplan always approaches safety as an integrated system, in which barriers, handrails, protective posts, safety gates, and fencing complement one another, tailored to the specific situation. For example, the combination of the TB 400 PLUS FENCE with a base rail and the FENCE GATE can completely enclose a machine zone and protect it from impact risks caused by material handling equipment.

In addition to physical protection, there is also a growing need for active warnings. In busy environments, every second can make a difference. By alerting drivers and pedestrians to potential risks sooner, incidents can often be prevented, which is preferable to mitigating the consequences after the fact.
"That evolution is the foundation of RE&DY TEC®, Boplan’s responsive and dynamic technology," explains Den Hartog. "With RE&DY TEC® LIGHT, we’re adding a visual warning signal to our existing safety solutions. In this way, this additional safety buffer helps prevent accidents."

Sustainability is also playing an increasingly important role in safety decisions. Companies are looking not only at the purchase price, but also at lifespan, maintenance, repairs, downtime, and the impact of their choice of suppliers.
In May 2026, Boplan received an EcoVadis Gold Sustainability Rating. This recognition confirms that sustainability is an integral part of the company’s operations.
According to den Hartog, this is entirely in line with Boplan’s vision: "Safety solutions must be reliable, durable, and contribute to continuity in the workplace. Because in a modern warehouse, safety is not just a prerequisite—it is an essential component of efficiency."
