Loadhog launches new automation container

Leading packaging manufacturer Loadhog launches the Autotote 64, a container specifically designed to meet the challenges of intralogistics automation.

Loadhog recognizes the global trend toward automated storage and distribution - and in particular the rapid growth of mobile automation - as companies look to secure the future of their supply chain. That is why Loadhog is expanding its automation range with the launch of a brand new container.

Designed for automation

The patented Autotote 64 is designed to operate smoothly and quietly on automated systems, while maintaining a high level of strength and durability. "We started developing products for automated systems in 2021," explains Martin Baker, Senior Design Engineer at Loadhog, "and launched our Autotote 6545 in 2022. Having delivered more than 350,000 Autototes to customers in various industries across Europe, we used all our expertise and experience to design a new standard container specifically for use with AMRs, conveyors, shuttle storage systems and other ASRS systems.

Unique basic design

The Autotote 64 has a unique single-walled double-skin bottom, making it completely smooth inside and out. This design, obtained by casting rather than welding, makes the container both lighter in weight and cheaper to produce. The product's beveled, cantilevered base edge reduces deflection and provides a degree of flexibility for smoother and quieter transitions between linked conveyors, during directional changes and over rolls. The diagonal ribs reinforce the base and the fully enclosed underside protects conveyor belt systems, helps save costs on belt maintenance and improves grip and speed. The Autotote 64 also features several reinforced interaction points to optimize movement within an automated shuttle system.

Innovative features

With a floor area of 600 x 400 mm, the Autotote 64 is available in two heights, 270 mm and 320 mm. It is suitable for loads up to 50 kg and temperatures from -20 to +40˚C. In addition to the advantages offered by the base, the container has hollow corners that provide strong impact properties and also allow smooth transport around corners. The new container also has offset drainage holes designed according to FM Global datasheet 8-34.

Sustainable solution

In line with Loadhog's ambition to reach net zero by 2030, the Autotote 64 features recycled material to avoid the UK plastic tax. Customers can choose to manufacture with 100% recycled material and still achieve excellent noise performance and basic rigidity. "Sustainability is further enhanced by the 2.3mm wall thickness," explains Martin Baker. "This means less material is required for production and results in lower product weight, without sacrificing strength and durability. In this way, the Autotote 64 proves a valuable addition to the circular economy."

Versatile options

The Autotote 64 is available with closed handles or open handles with a large internal radius for ergonomic use. Identification options include in-mold labeling in 10 different locations. Dividers can be used to maximize the number of SKUs in each bin, with a choice of width, length or half-width dividers for optimal versatility in up to 8 sections. The dividers have a flexible edge for easy removal and, unlike competitive versions, do not have interlocking slots that can become weak. Branding options for the Autotote 64 include printing or embossing, while the carrying case itself can come in a range of colors in addition to the standard gray.

New factory in France

Construction will soon begin on Loadhog's brand new production facility in Obernai, 10 miles southwest of Strasbourg. Set to open in 2025, the new plant will provide shorter lead times for Loadhog's European customers while reducing the company's carbon footprint. Due to the high demand for automated intralogistics solutions on the continent, the Autotote 64 will be the first product to roll off the new production line.
