Sustainability is a necessity. More and more companies are working on it in one way or another and are willing to invest in it. Sustainability also includes the use of biodegradable lubricants. Duport Lubricare is the sole distributor of Panolin in the Netherlands.
Sales manager Henk-Jan Keuter can tell in detail about the advantages of the durable hydraulic oil from this Swiss lubricant manufacturer: "A hydraulic system runs on average 1,500 hours with the same oil. So during its lifetime, that oil has to be replaced at least ten times. With Panolin's long-life oil, replacement is no longer necessary, as it lasts as much as 15,000 hours." In practice, that is often as long as the machine itself.
From that certainty and the great environmental benefit, it is understandable that more and more clients choose this. Boskalis, for example, uses Panolin on the Magnor (the world's largest backhoe dredger), BAM for both its rail and civil engineering divisions and for its foundation machines, Tobroco for its Giant machines, and then there is Strukton, KWS Infra, ETEC, water boards, municipalities, not to mention the Department of Public Works and the Forestry Commission. Henk-Jan takes as an example the management and maintenance by Heijmans of the lock complexes in Terneuzen and on the Westerschelde. "This oil is extremely interesting for companies working in sensitive areas. This is because Panolin is biodegradable. If you accidentally leak some oil, it is more than 90 percent degraded within 28 days."
"We are currently working on many great projects. For example, the municipality of Almere is opting for green and sustainable solutions as part of 'Growing Green Cities.' On the recently delivered new garbage trucks, the hydraulic systems are filled with biodegradable oil, supplied by Duport Lubricare BV.' Henk-Jan also sees this development in other municipalities.
"Although the Swiss brand oil is slightly more expensive to buy, more and more companies are choosing Panolin because it is much more durable and actually saves a lot of money in the long run. It is a high-quality product that is available as a factory refill from many OEMs. Panolin has approvals from several major institutes."
As an importer of oils, Duport Lubricare ostensibly has every interest in ensuring that machines use as much oil as possible. Nevertheless, the company from Dedemsvaart always looks first at which product best suits the customer. "We do not go for our own advantage, but look for the right solution for each situation. First we take a sample and see if it is possible to filter the current oil. Then it can often last another year or three more and that saves a lot of money. For us this is less advantageous, but we find it especially important that everything is done in a sustainable way," says Henk-Jan.
Duport Lubricare can do that filtering itself, by the way, because the company is also an importer of Cardev filtration equipment. This is suitable for any working hydraulic system and capable of getting the oil cleaner than new and keeping it that way. The equipment is designed with ease of use in mind. The filter surface is maximum and a further great advantage is that when changing the filter element, no debris is left behind.
