New trench shoring company makes projects safer

The transition to a circular economy presents both challenges and opportunities for companies working in earthmoving. The demand for the construction of energy-efficient homes, buildings and infrastructure is increasing, requiring the laying of new cables, pipes and sewers. But there is also a lot going on in the existing built environment. For example, fiber optic cable is being laid in various places and pipes are being replaced. Due to the construction of new residential areas and climate change, our current sewer system can no longer handle the capacity or has reached the end of its lifespan. This needs to be addressed nationwide. Work to be done!

Challenges

But we're falling behind. Speaking is Andy Martens, founder of BodemBoX, specialist in consulting and rental of trench shoring systems for the civil engineering or earthwork contractor. "Often people are not aware of the possibilities that are achievable with our systems. Our materials can be safely buried to great depths in various applications. Another challenge is that construction projects today are carried out under high time pressure, which sometimes compromises safety. When digging a trench, risks arise because groundwater, sandy soil or increased loads behind a trench can cause subsidence or even collapse. Extremely dangerous for the people working in the trench, but it can also affect the people, buildings or infrastructure around a trench."

Awareness

"Often enough things still go wrong and it happens that soil masses sink unexpectedly. The pressure on the project must not result in unsafe situations. The people in the trench themselves are also often to blame. The thought is often 'it can be done, just quickly', but the consequences are disastrous. And that is exactly why we, with BodemBoX, are going to provide the infrastructure market with applications to work safely both in and around the trench."

Service and safety

BodemBoX targets the Dutch and Belgian market with its CE and TÜV certified range of several excavation construction systems and various excavation pit solutions. The production of trench shoring is done in a brand new production facility in Germany using the latest techniques. This also ensures compliance with current legislation. "To unburden our customers, we provide much more than just the product. We offer a piece of service and personal guidance on construction. And if required, an instructor comes along to help install the trench formwork. We also supply useful applications such as edge protection and gates that secure access to the excavation so that work can be done safely and responsibly in and around the trench. All things that improve safety."

Connection with 'outside'

"A good connection with the foreman, excavator or machinist, is very important," says Martens. "They are the ones who have to work with it and know exactly what is really needed within the project." Martens
concludes, "If a company has made the decision to work safely and responsibly, but does not (yet) have the experience, we offer the solution. With the right advice and the connection with the outside world all the way through to implementation. That's where we make the difference."
