With the new EFG 5, Jungheinrich introduces the next generation of electric forklifts in the 4.0 to 5.0 ton class.
The new EFG 5 is a powerful electric forklift with counterweight, developed for heavy and intensive applications. With a load capacity of up to 5 tons at a load center of 500 or 600 millimeters and lift heights of up to 7,500 millimeters, it represents the top segment of the Jungheinrich heavy truck portfolio. The series targets customers in industry, building materials, beverage and automotive sectors, among others, where internal combustion engine lift trucks have often been used until now. Thanks to the robust truck design, high power reserves and drive technology geared to intensive use, the new series enables all-electric operation in multi-shift operations without compromising on performance.
“With the new EFG 5, we offer our customers an all-electric solution for applications that until now have often been dominated by diesel forklifts,” said Markus Kaspers, Product Manager at Jungheinrich. “The forklift combines high handling performance with high reliability and is consistently designed for heavy and intensive operation.”
A completely redeveloped drive and hydraulic concept provides up to 15 percent higher handling performance. Two powerful drive motors with high torque and a top speed of up to 20 km/h ensure high driving dynamics even under full load. The new, energy-efficient Synchronous Reluctance Lift Motor Plus (SRM+) ensures fast entry and exit processes and speeds up lifting and lowering considerably. This makes the EFG 5 particularly suitable for frequent load changes or block stacking.
In addition, an approximately 33 percent higher hydraulic oil flow rate enables faster and more precise work movements with attachments. As a result, even large attachments respond quickly and in a controlled manner, even with heavy loads.
The EFG 5 is available in two performance variants:
In addition to higher performance, the focus of development was on further optimization of the driver's workplace. Increased comfort and reduced fatigue are achieved through approximately five percent additional foot room, optimized pedal positions and new seat variants, including premium seats with air suspension. Thanks to a cab decoupled from the chassis, vibrations and noise levels are significantly reduced. This noticeably lowers the sound pressure in the cab - an important advantage during long deployment times and multi-shift operations.
The structure of the truck has also been redesigned with safe and productive work processes in mind. 40 percent slimmer B-pillars and a glass cab door improve ergonomics and all-round visibility. The styleless panoramic skylight in and above the ECO 1 cab also provides optimal upward visibility.
The new EFG 5 can be tailored to the specific application scenario thanks to an extensive range of assistance and safety systems. Available systems include curveCONTROL, driveCONTROL, liftCONTROL and zoneCONTROL.
The optional, AI-enabled addedVIEW camera system increases safety in complex working environments. The system continuously monitors the environment, provides visual and audible warnings, and automatically reduces speed when potential hazards are recognized.
“Safety is a crucial productivity factor, especially in heavy and intensive applications,” Kaspers said. “The assistance systems of the EFG 5 relieve the driver noticeably and at the same time increase process safety in the warehouse and on the outside area.”
The new series is available with lead acid EN lithium-ion battery in various capacities. In addition, numerous truck configurations are possible, tailored to a variety of applications. Customers can choose from various cabs, options and versions, including dirt packages for outdoor deployment, additional USB connections and a sound module.
The market launch of the new EGF 5 Series is scheduled for the third quarter of 2026.
