In the first edition of this magazine (September-October 2023), you could read how Dely Waffles, a company in the food sector, gratefully uses Dexion's mobile storage solutions. The Belgian supplier of racking, storage solutions and warehouse accessories is also a trusted name in the automotive sector. To illustrate this, we move to Volvo Group Belgium, where mobile pallet racking ensures optimal management of storage space.

A brief introduction. Dexion was founded in 1947 by Demetrius Comino. He developed the "Dexion Slotted-Angle," a solution that paved the way for adjustable storage systems and Dexion's purpose-built pallet racking and shelving systems. Since early 2018, Dexion has been part of the Gonvarri Material Handling Group, which also includes the leading industrial brands Constructor, Kasten, Stålteknik and Kredit.

In Ghent, they manage the Volvo Group's largest warehouse in the world.  Fruitful collaboration

"The cooperation with Dexion started in 2015, when we expanded our logistics site with some ten thousand square meters of additional warehouse space," confirms Franky Heyneman, inventory manager at Volvo Group Belgium. "The team delivered standard pallet racking for the warehouse layout, and it was done correctly and within the agreed deadlines. We have further intensified our cooperation with Dexion in recent years, including the delivery of shelf racks and collision protection."

"As part of a restructuring of our warehouse spaces, we recently carried out a rearrangement of our stock," adds colleague Antoine Frijlink. As a logistics engineer, he focuses on aspects such as warehouse optimization, ergonomics and safety. "Dexion's MOVO mobile pallet racks were the ideal solution to efficiently stock our buffer stock of oil filters."

Franky and Antoine are happy to highlight some of the advantages of the MOVO mobile pallet racking: "One of the main advantages is the considerable space savings. Because the racks are mounted on mobile carts, we can place them close together. As a result, our operators only need one aisle to access each row of pallets. Thus we achieve an increased storage capacity of up to 80 percent compared to traditional fixed racks."

"We also find that mobile pallet racks provide flexibility in storage management. After all, we can easily adapt them to changing storage needs and layouts, allowing us to respond quickly to changes in inventory levels of
our oil filters."

"Another plus is the increased safety on our shop floor. Indeed, our mobile pallet racks are equipped with advanced technologies such as sensors and automatic stop functions, practically eliminating accidents. And finally, there is operational efficiency thanks to faster access to our stock of oil filters. As a result, our warehouse colleagues need less time for order picking."

Sustainable investment

Franky and Antoine are not only full of praise for Dexion's storage solutions, but also for their aftercare and maintenance service. "We have a list of spare parts to make quick repairs to the pallet racks in case of an emergency. But honestly: the quality of the racks is so good that we haven't had to use these spare parts yet."
