From the smallest screw to the largest joist: both construction professionals and private individuals have traditionally been able to find it at Koddaert Metalen in Torhout. Since this well-known wholesaler suffers from a lack of space and efficiency, it is time for a new wind. Total contractor Morti is therefore fully engaged in the realization of an extensive warehouse and a beautiful headquarters, according to a design by Sonar Architects. The higher goal of this ambitious project is to centralize all business activities, further streamline internal operations and give a substantial boost to the image and appearance of Koddaert Metalen.
Koddaert Metalen has enjoyed an excellent reputation for years and is therefore a household name in Torhout and the surrounding area. Nevertheless, there is always room for improvement and efficiency. The company's production and storage sites are currently still spread over several locations and there is an urgent need for a large hall where everything can be conveniently stored. Hence the decision to build a new warehouse and a modern headquarters. The warehouse is intended for the storage and processing of all kinds of metal elements such as beams, reinforcement nets, brackets, custom-made foundation baskets and so on. The office area will accommodate offices, a conference room, a refectory, locker rooms and even a store with construction supplies. The new building will not only increase operational efficiency, but also provide an inspiring working environment for staff, who will be brought together under one roof. In this way, Koddaert Metalen is taking an important step toward the future.
To put these promising plans into practice, Koddaert Metalen went to Sonar Architects and Morti. They are responsible for the realization of a functional, attractive and efficient new building that meets the specific needs of the company. "First of all, we analyzed the operational requirements of the building owners and integrated them into the design," the architects explain. "We aimed for an optimal synergy between the production facilities in the warehouse area and the comfortable, modern office environment. Especially challenging was the search for an integrated concept with a perfect balance between the necessary functionality and creating the right representation. The warehouse must support the functional aspects of metal processing, and the headquarters must reflect the company's identity and values. The latter will be done, among other things, through an imposing curtain wall. A front-hanging structure will serve as sun protection and give the building volume a special appearance."
"Healthy and happy employees are the foundation of any thriving business," knows Jo Mortier, business manager at Morti. "We maximize the experience and expertise of our stellar staff into commitment, with the intention of making Koddaert Metalen's dreams come true and even exceeding expectations. It is a challenge every time to execute what an architect has conceived based on the specific wishes of the building owner. However, we are not easily intimidated and have every confidence in a good outcome. A valuable building project is realized by working together. Each from their own expertise, but with a shared vision of aesthetics and space. That is certainly the case here."
Koddaert Metalen also praises the excellent cooperation with Morti and Sonar Architects. "They play very close to the ball and follow everything closely. Weekly site meetings take place to connect the dots." The architects are also pleased with the favorable state of affairs: "The proactive attitude of all parties involved and the open, efficient and transparent communication testify to a shared commitment to bringing the project to a successful conclusion. Changes or new insights in the site phase are quickly integrated each time, which underlines the team's flexibility and adaptability. We have a lot of experience with utility and office construction, but the scale, complexity and location - in an easily accessible high visibility location - make this project extra special." At Koddaert Metalen, they are eagerly looking forward to the day when they can put their new building into use. "Compared to our current way of working, there will be a better flow when picking up orders. Thanks to more automation in our production, we will be able to serve our customers even more smoothly. We are firmly convinced that we will take a big step forward this way!"
