The truck was designed with an uncompromising goal: to be the optimal work tool for a wide range of transportation tasks, always with the driver at the center of attention.
`Red Dot` is internationally one of the most sought-after quality ratings for good design. The award was first presented in 1955 at Design Zentrum Nordrhein Westfalen in Essen, Germany. The current Red Dot Jury consists of some 50 international experts.
The new Volvo FM was designed after extensive surveys and interviews with customers. In particular, the importance and contribution of the driver to the profitability and image of transportation companies took center stage. The design team wanted to design the best mobile office in the industry, resulting in a versatile truck that is maneuverable, spacious and, above all, safe and comfortable for all drivers.
"The Red Dot Award is great recognition for the creative work of the Volvo Trucks design team. The award shows that the Volvo FM has a balanced design that creates business value. By incorporating exterior, interior and practical experience into the design, we improve the daily life of our drivers. Drivers and transportation in general are ultimately crucial to keeping our society running," said Carin Larsson, Chief Designer UX at Volvo Trucks.
The new Volvo FM offers numerous innovations that add up to higher levels of comfort, safety and productivity. Examples include the spacious new cabin and improved visibility through the use of a lowered window line in the doors, new rearview mirrors and an optional blind spot camera on the passenger side that gives a complementary view of the side of the truck. Although the cab has become more spacious, the two-step entry has remained low for all engine variants.
The Volvo FM can also be delivered with LNG engine To achieve significant fuel and CO2-savings possible.
The interior features a new dashboard and a dynamic high-resolution 12-inch instrument panel. The user-friendly interface is designed to simplify interactions and minimize distractions and is future-ready.
The exterior of the Volvo FM emphasizes its versatility for different applications. The cab has a new aerodynamic shape with clean, distinctive lines. The V-shaped headlights provide recognition, and the design of the robust front grille gives the truck a bold, confident look.
The new Volvo FM was introduced in 2020, along with the Volvo FH, Volvo FH16 and Volvo FMX. All four new heavy-duty trucks have been in serial production.
