High performance load carriers within warehouse automation

Since 1982, Plastibac has specialized in plastic load carriers for storage, logistics, waste management, facility and packaging. Many Belgian and foreign companies and organizations rely on the West Flemish family business for the delivery of high-quality plastic bins, containers, pallets and numerous other load carriers. Izegem-based Meditech also finds high-quality custom storage solutions at Plastibac.

Meditech, specializing in the development, production and distribution of pharmacy robots, has been in business since 1998. However, the company's roots reach further back. Its parent company, Studio Clement (formerly Clement Pharma Concepts), has long been a well-known specialist in pharmacy design. From the ambition to facilitate the work of pharmacists, the idea arose to offer automation solutions to this professional target group. It was in this context that Meditech was launched.

International expansion

Meditech is a fast-growing company. In addition to a strong international market position, the West Flemish company continues to explore new opportunities in healthcare-related sectors. For example, hospitals are also in its sights for a range of advanced automation solutions. Due to the combination of rapid growth and international expansion, management recently invested in a new company building and additional capacity. In cooperation with the logistics consultancy LOGFLOW, it drew up a future-oriented plan to modernize the stockroom and related logistics to the maximum extent possible, driven by a Warehouse Management System (WMS).

Smart storage system with vertical elevator

The production and assembly of pharmacy robots requires a meticulous approach, as many different components must be handled. Meditech opted for a vertical elevator system with drawers. This allows the company to efficiently manage a large inventory of items within a limited space. To set up the drawers optimally, Meditech called on Plastibac, a specialist in reusable plastic packaging.

Considering the variety of components, four types of professional Euronorm bins were implemented. Each has a different height and a unique color for visual distinction. Furthermore, all bins feature closed handles to prevent small components from being lost.

Fast rotation and tight inventory control

The vertical elevator is used only for high rotation parts. Products that are needed less frequently are stored on a mezzanine with shelf racks. The same bins are used there as well, each individually barcoded. To ensure smooth and accurate inventory management, new stock is never replenished in existing bins. Each delivery receives a new, empty bin. This ensures continuous inventory control and minimal risk of errors.

Sustainability and efficiency go hand in hand

Central to the Plastibac offering is the RRR concept: reuse, reduce, recycle. The sustainable plastic packaging is perfectly usable in a circular economy. When a product reaches the end of its useful life, the Plastibac team offers customers the opportunity to give these products a second life. Like Plastibac, Meditech strives for sustainability in all its processes. The new company building is constructed from sustainable materials and runs largely on renewable energy sources. Thanks to the modernization of logistics, Meditech now has an efficiently organized inventory, fast operational processes and a very low error rate. This provides the company with a solid basis for further growth and new markets, without losing sight of its focus on sustainability and innovation.
