DSV takes steps in sustainability with first Renault Trucks E-Tech Master chassis cab

DSV, one of the three largest logistics service providers in the world, has taken delivery of an emission-free Renault Trucks E-Tech Master chassis cab. For DSV, it is the first van in chassis cab variant to be fully electrically powered. The Renault Trucks E-Tech Master was delivered by Bluekens Truck and Bus Breda.

In addition to transportation and logistics services, DSV provides warehousing solutions for thousands of companies. One of those companies is SABIC, the largest petrochemical company in the Middle East. At its Bergen op Zoom site, which produces semi-granulate for the plastics industry, the 100% electric Renault Trucks Master is used to pick up and deliver packages and spare parts.

Alexander van der Plas, Manager of Operations Bergen op Zoom & Tholen, explains that the chemical site is not accessible to outside suppliers, such as parcel services. "So parcels are collected in one place and distributed from there. The vehicle used for this was due for replacement and to reduce our carbon footprint, we started looking for a smart and sustainable alternative."

Hard requirement

The Renault Trucks E-Tech Master has a Smartbox body with a payload of 1,152 kg. Van der Plas explains that only Renault Trucks could meet the wishes of the team using the vehicle. "In addition to a tailgate with a 500-kg capacity, a hard requirement was that the superstructure could be placed above the wheel arches, so that there is enough space in the cargo box for turning pallets. Initially, this was not available in an all-electric version. The moment Renault Trucks could deliver this chassis cab commercial vehicle, the order was placed within a week. Despite the fact that there were many parties involved in the purchase."

The emission-free Renault Trucks E-Tech Master is equipped with a 33 kWh battery pack and has a range of 100 kilometers. More than enough for the work the vehicle will be used for. For charging, the charging stations for electric passenger cars on the premises are used. "We are investigating whether we can eventually realize another connection," Van der Plas said.

Trust

Van der Plas is positive about the cooperation with Renault Trucks dealer Bleukens Truck and Bus. "The EV team has given us good advice and the fact that Renault Trucks remains committed to the electrification of commercial vehicles gives us confidence that we have made the right choice. As one of the largest transport and logistics companies in the world, DSV is constantly looking for opportunities to become more sustainable."
