New functionality provides insight into the reasoning behind every AI-driven forecast, recommendation, and inventory decision in ActivePlanning™. This boosts planners’ confidence by reducing hours of research outside the system to answers within the application in just a few seconds.
Manhattan Associates, a global leader in native AI-driven supply chain commerce solutions, is launching Sightline. This is a new feature in ActivePlanning™ that explains, in clear business language, the reasoning behind AI-driven forecasts, recommendations, and inventory decisions.
Sightline provides direct insight into the ‘why’ behind expected results right within the application: from a single order line to an entire network. It gives planners a deep understanding of the factors that shape forecasts, orders, and inventory levels. Included are inputs for forecasts, decisions regarding safety stock, minimum order quantities, lead times, the effects of promotions, and shifts in fulfillment and network movements.
For decades, planners have had to work outside the system using tools like Microsoft Excel to understand the logic behind planning decisions. Sightline is changing this by providing real-time analyses directly within the application. This transforms hours of research conducted outside the system into answers that are available in seconds. This allows planners to quickly understand why a forecast has changed, why an expectation was high or low, or which factors drove a recommendation.
Advanced AI forecasting often feels like a black box where a data scientist has to handle the analysis. AI adjusts forecasts, makes recommendations on inventory replenishment, and also drives allocation decisions. In practice, it’s often difficult to understand exactly why the system does what it does. But with Sightline, they get real-time analytics right within the application.
Sightline also provides dynamic, configurable views designed around how planners actually work—whether based on role, promotion, or activity, or a combination of all these perspectives. These views of forecasts, order expectations, and planned inventory levels are made possible by a new configurable workspace for planners. This reduces the time spent answering routine ‘why’ questions and eliminates the need for third-party business intelligence tools or Excel.
“At Manhattan, we focus on continuous innovation and simplification, which helps our customers work smarter and act faster,” says Brian Kinsella, senior vice president and chief product officer at Manhattan. “With Sightline, we’re giving planning teams a powerful new way to understand the drivers behind every outcome, accelerate decision-making, and boost supply chain productivity.”
Sightline is setting a new standard for planning software by embedding explainability directly into the planning system, enabling users to analyze results right where decisions are made.
