Prolonged search for right profiles unnecessary

Many manufacturing and trading companies still stack longer goods, such as profiles, on the floor of the production hall or warehouse. A lot of time is therefore regularly lost in the search for the right workpiece. This was also the case in the sawing department of Staalhandel Noesen (Wommelgem). But when this family business moved to a new location, it invested in a rack with horizontal, extendable drawers from Eurostorage, which allows easy loading and unloading of even the heaviest profiles using the overhead crane.

'Strong in steel since 1920' - that is what you can read on the website of Staalhandel Noesen. The underlying images of the new location in Wommelgem show that this wholesaler invests in quality and service, with a very wide range in a well-organized warehouse and transport with its own trucks to the customers.

"This family business was founded when Laurent Noesen sr. started importing and exporting iron and steel in Antwerp. Soon his life's work evolved into a renowned steel trading company, which continuously adapted and expanded its offer to keep responding to the changing needs of customers," says Jonas Elsermans, responsible for Warehouse & Logistics. "Meanwhile, we deliver more than twelve thousand tons of steel per year to customers active in general construction, furniture industry and machine building, as well as companies that perform turning and milling work, make fencing and gates, ... We permanently keep more than two thousand five hundred tons of steel of the highest quality in stock. We also look for suitable solutions with our partners for specific requests outside the range."

Sawing

At Noesen, they attach great importance to quality throughout the entire process: from purchase through storage to delivery and service. They therefore consciously choose to work with leading Western European manufacturers and only stock top-quality materials that meet European standards. "The customers are central. Thanks to more than a century of steel knowledge, we can think along to offer products from stock or other solutions with special properties, dimensions or qualities. We give expert advice regarding steel quality, execution, finishing, tolerances, ... We deliver products from a large stock with our own trucks, and for orders from production, customers receive reliable delivery times," Elsermans continues. "Moreover, they can also come to us for customization. For example, we have a high-performance machine park to cut profiles from stock to size."

Optimize storage of profiles

And it was precisely in the storage of those profiles in various sizes and weights that the shoe was wrong. "In the past, complete profiles and residual pieces were lying in several piles on the floor of our production hall. To find the right profile, we often had to move several pieces before sawing. The result: a lot of wasted time and annoyance," Elsermans points out. "When we moved to a new location, we didn't want to make that mistake a second time and looked on the Internet for a solution for orderly storage. Through a picture of an interesting profile storage system, we ended up at Eurostorage."

Davy Moreels, manager at Eurostorage, continues, "They contacted us and we proposed a horizontal rack with 100 % extendable drawers with a capacity of 3 tons each. Thanks to this compact system with revolving doors, they can store their profiles in an orderly manner. Removing profiles is done by one person using a loading ramp."

Jonas Elsermans concludes, "We have been using this storage system for a while now and are very satisfied. We can store many profiles very structurally in a limited space. Moreover, we can load this rack very easily and, thanks to the extendable drawers, we can easily remove pieces, which often weigh several hundred kilos, with the overhead crane. This allows our sawing department to work much more efficiently and productively. The long search for the right profiles is over."
