Over the years, SSI SCHAEFER has already implemented several intralogistics solutions for Kloosterboer in the Netherlands, France and Sweden. The construction of the impressive Cool Port II high bay cold store in Rotterdam is currently being completed.
The 6-aisle satellite warehouse is 69 meters long, 138 meters wide and 41 meters high. SSI SCHAEFER is supplying around 4,200 tonnes of steel for this warehouse, which can accommodate 60,000 pallet spaces. The entire construction was carried out by engineers from SSI SCHAEFER, with a great deal of coordination with the various subcontractors beforehand.
This high-rise cold store consists of a silo design, where the side walls and roofing are attached directly to the steel rack structure. In order to cool the whole building to -25 °C, a cooling platform was installed at a height of around 35 meters for 5 huge cooling units 9 meters long and 4 meters high. SSI SCHAEFER also built a special floor structure in the front building (LOWBAY Building) for conveyor belts, which connects to the conveyor belts and platforms of the high-rise building.
The client is pursuing BREEAM Outstanding sustainability certification. This also directly affects the steel structure. For example, the roof structure was designed to mount 2,700 solar panels at a special degree angle. Surely this brings with it a certain challenge given the flexibility during all weather conditions.
Since mid-January, an average of 45 mechanics have been building the building, which should be ready by the end of August. We can only achieve this successfully through good communication and clear agreements with the client and all subcontractors.
