Holland's first multi-storey XXL logistics city hub will be fitted with a quality aluminum facade. Commissioned by Bouwbedrijf Vrolijk, V.P.G. Aluminium Ramen en Geveltechniek B.V. will supply and install more than 11,000 m2 of aluminum window frames, doors and curtain wall systems, including 10,000 m2 of curtain walls, 26 automatic sliding doors and 100 revolving doors. This makes Amsterdam Logistic Cityhub the largest project for the Nieuwkuijk-based facade specialist, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year.
V.P.G. is enormously proud to be able to help build this last mile solution. But also that it has once again received the confidence of Bouwbedrijf Vrolijk, to supply and assemble the aluminum facade systems. "Our cooperation goes back more than 20 years," emphasizes Richard van Zanten, director/owner of V.P.G. Aluminium Ramen en Geveltechniek B.V. "Following the example of Fresh2You, Cornelisland I through V and Spoormaker, for example, we were also involved in the engineering phase of this project. Together we translated Convexarchitecten's design into a feasible and makeable execution design, without compromising the aesthetic quality envisioned by the architect and client."
The choice of aluminum in this project is a logical one, according to Van Zanten, because of its waterfront location. In addition, aluminum guarantees low weight, high strength and minimal maintenance. "The entire project will be executed with curtain wall profiles and high cover frames from system house Reynaers, extruded to a project-specific length," he says. "The CW 50 series was chosen, while the windows and doors will be executed in CS 77. The entire project will be triple-glazed." In early January 2022, V.P.G. will begin production of the façade elements. A few weeks later, assembly will start. All work will be supervised by the facade specialist's own executives and project managers.
The biggest challenge, according to Van Zanten, will soon be in the logistics. This is because the curtain walls - with very large glass surfaces - only begin at a height of 27 meters from ground level. Around the building, lifting scaffolds will be suspended from the roof, from where the assembly work will be carried out. For glazing, V.P.G. uses special cranes, with a considerable lifting height and long reach. All products are delivered just-in-time to the project and processed immediately. "The weather - especially the wind - on construction will be very decisive for the progress of the assembly. In August 2022, we hope to deliver our work on schedule."
