ReShare chooses Scania again

Salvation Army ReShare has taken delivery of two Scania G280 4×2 trucks with closed bodies. The new trucks will be used to transport used clothing throughout the Netherlands. The clothing collector again chose Scania because of its good value for money and safety. "Scania may not be the cheapest, but they are safe trucks and the quality is excellent," said Arne Hobo, logistics manager.

In the Netherlands, 169 million kilos of usable textiles disappear into household waste every year. A shame, according to the Salvation Army, which collects second-hand clothing and textiles under the name ReShare. To process these, the foundation has a modern and well-equipped fleet of ten of its own vehicles and two crane truck charters, which empty the clothing containers. The new Scania G280 rigids are to replace two Scania LNG trucks, which are no longer allowed to enter zero-emission zones.

All safety options

All fifteen ReShare Stores, the Salvation Army's secondhand and vintage clothing stores, are located in inner cities. Good visibility from the cab is essential there. The Scania G cabs are equipped with a reversing camera, blind spot camera, flashers and beacons. "Safety is paramount at The Salvation Army. Not only for our drivers, but also for fellow road users. That's why we checked all the safety options when we purchased them," Hobo said.

The spacious cab with low entry, which facilitates the driver's frequent entry and exit, also played a major role in choosing the Scania G-Series. "We are keen to retain our drivers and value their job satisfaction. That's why we chose Scania again, in line with their preferences. After all, they spend the whole week in it."

Sybrand Buurma uses fixed routes throughout the Netherlands to supply the ReShare Stores and take back the clothes collected there. He is enthusiastic about his new Scania and particularly praises the comfort. "The cabin is nice and spacious and it drives much better than my previous car thanks to the air suspension."

Big advantage

A Scania repair and maintenance contract was signed for the maintenance of the new trucks. One of the vehicles is stationed at ReShare's headquarters in Oosterhout and is maintained by Scania Oosterhout, which also supplied the vehicles. The other operates from the sorting center in Deventer and goes there for maintenance to the dealer. Hobo: "I find that a great advantage of the Scania organization. All branches fall under the same contract, which makes it easy to switch garages."
