Innovative safety system accessible to all

The numbers do not lie: 1,500 serious incidents occur in this sector every year. A work-related accident costs an average of 65,000 euros, but many times worse and not quantifiable in value is the human suffering. Unfortunately, Guy Paterson can relate to this from his own experience. He saw a colleague seriously injured when he wasn't paying attention and crashed his forklift into a truck. This unpleasant incident motivated Paterson to focus entirely on increasing workplace safety. We asked him about the possibilities and importance of safety measures.

Paterson started Aber Logistics in 2016, but recently changed the name to Aber Solutions: "This name better reflects what we offer, which is a total package of vehicle and brand-independent safety detection systems. I experienced at the time that the impact of an accident is enormous. For the person involved and his family, but also for colleagues and the company. The ultimate cost of an accident, both in euros and well-being, is many times higher than that of safety measures."

Scalable

Aber Solutions sets itself apart by using a combination of AI cameras and patented UWB technology. Their safety detection system is scalable, can be used both indoors and outdoors, and the dashboard provides real-time insights, allowing one to respond immediately to changes in the operating situation. That the system is brand- and vehicle-independent also adds to its scalability. Moreover, no live network or Internet is required, which also makes it cyberproof. With its system, Aber Solutions increases safety at numerous clients at home and abroad: from pedestrian safety and vehicle security to setting up safety zones and asset protection.

Employee Satisfaction

Their impressive portfolio of assignments includes the pedestrian and asset protection at Majestic. This international wholesaler turned to Aber Solutions after its production process was completely shut down due to a collision of a reach truck with the conveyor belt. "The huge impact made them decide to reduce this risk. Our system now ensures that their reach truck drivers receive a signal when they get too close to pedestrians or the conveyor belt. In addition, the speed of the vehicle is automatically reduced. We recently spoke to Majestic and they are very pleased with the system. But it was especially good to hear that the employees are very happy with it. It has increased their sense of safety and the drivers are more relaxed behind the wheel now that they know they will be warned should they accidentally take a moment to not pay attention. Employee satisfaction is of course extremely important, especially in these times of labor shortages."

Innovations

UWB technology very accurately monitors the distance between people, objects, vehicles and areas. In the event of a dangerous situation, a light and sound warning is immediately issued to pedestrians and drivers. This can be combined with automatic speed reduction of vehicles.
In addition to UWB, AI cameras can be integrated for additional detection and visualization. This enables comprehensive monitoring. For example, AI cameras can tell the difference between an object and pedestrian. When pedestrians are detected, an alert is issued via light, sound or vehicle speed reduction.

Need

Paterson explains the extent of the consequences of an accident: "In addition to the consequences already mentioned, an accident can also lead to reputational damage. And in addition to absenteeism, you may have to deal with higher insurance premiums. Or fines, penalties and legal problems. Also remember that legislation is going to get stricter!"

Accessible system

Aber Solutions implements its safety detection system at various industries, including logistics, industrial, construction and waste management. Paterson considers accessibility an important requirement for a security detection system. "That's why we offer both purchase and rental options, and our system is scalable. For example, you can start with about four to five vehicles and expand that later."
