Yanmar Construction Equipment Europe (CEE) is attending Bauma in Munich with virtually its entire range of compact machines. With a total of 34 machines on its large outdoor stand, the more than 100-year-old and dyed-in-the-wool Japanese company will show that it is still at the forefront where compact equipment is concerned.
Yanmar calls itself the market leader when it comes to compact machines. With over fifty years of experience in building mini excavators, the company is therefore a fixture in the top ten leading manufacturers of construction equipment. This will again be clearly visible at the Bauma equipment trade fair in April. Just about the entire range of compact machines will be on the large stand, from the 1,035 kg SV08 mini excavator to the 11,300 kg SV120. What we will also find there is the seven-piece line of wheel loaders, the four compact but powerful crawler dumpers and one or more excavators on tires
Continued growth
The year 2018 once again showed clear sales growth and this is not only due to the contemporary design, technological innovation and continuous product development. For as important as these are, economic operations play at least as big a role in the success strategy. In 2016, this led to the acquisition of Terex Compact Germany GmbH by Yanmar. The factory in Crailsheim, between Stuttgart and Nuremberg, produces a fine range of mini and midi-excavators, wheel loaders and mobile excavators. The parts warehouse in Rothenburg, near Leipzig, was also a sensible part of the purchase, as a centrally located supply point is essential today. Especially if, like Yanmar, you have a network of more than 250 dealers in Europe.
Renewal program
The acquisition of Terec Compact Germany caused Yanmar to significantly expand and renew its range of compact machines. That in turn ensured growing interest not only from the public works, construction and landscaping sectors, but also from companies involved in cable and pipe laying, small demolition and civil engineering. By the way, the other production site in Europe is at Yanmar CEE's headquarters in northern France's Saint-Dizier.

Inventor Zero Tail Swing
At Pre-Bauma in Munich, the event where journalists and the business community exchange expected news, we got a first glimpse of the news that will be on display at the Japanese company's large Bauma booth. Yanmar is pretty much the inventor of the Zero Tail Swing concept for mini-excavators. Of the more than 20 mini- and midi machines coming to Bauma, at least 80 to perhaps 90 percent fall under that heading.
New midi diggers
At Bauma, two new midi excavators in the 8 to 12-ton class are waiting: the ViO80-2PB and the ViO82. They bring the total to seven models, so there is a suitable choice for every type of work and/or company. Both the ViO82 and the ViO80-2PB are equipped with the fuel-efficient and low-emission Yanmar 4TNV98C-WBV1 diesel engine, which delivers 41.5 kW (55.6 hp) of gross power, has an Eco mode, plus a control that sharply reduces engine speed after 4 seconds of idling. Also new to the ViO82 is the self-contained hydraulic system (VIPPS210), whose two pumps ensure minimal pressure loss during combined boom and arm movements. This makes for noticeably smoother operation.
More or less similar in capacity and innovative technology, the ViO80-2PB is equipped with a two-piece boom. It is specifically designed for lifting, moving and positioning loads. By reversing the lifting cylinder and increasing the hydraulic pressure, a particularly high breakout force has been achieved. The reversal also makes the boom faster and more flexible to move.
ViO23-6 will be a first at Bauma. There is also a canopy version of it.
Optimal work balance
At the mini-excavators pulls the new ViO23-6 the attention at Bauma. A scoop whose first photo may now be shown. The canopy version weighs about 2,300 kg without ne more than 2,400 kg with cab. These weights make transportation on the trailer behind the passenger car quite possible. At the same time, the three-cylinder Yanmar engine provides an output of 14.6 kW, good for an excavation force at 13.1 kN on the arm and 17.5 kN penetration force at the bucket. The digging depth is 2,450 mm. The turning radius of this compact machine is 690 mm. Yanmar has also equipped this newcomer with ViPPS, the ViO Progressive 3-Pump System that should ensure an optimal work balance between speed and power, even while driving at speeds of 2.2 - 4.2 km/h.
