Yanmar's goal of constantly improving products already led to three new SV models last year. This year, it's the turn of the indoor turners, and the 1.7-ton ViO17 takes the lead. Its three-cylinder Stage V diesel engine generates a lot of power with low consumption.
Yanmar Construction Equipment calls the ViO17 "the most compact machine of its kind," which, thanks to its robust monoblock chassis and variable undercarriage, can also be both the narrowest (950 mm) and the widest (1,280 mm), making it the most stable. That stability and flexibility on difficult terrain can be further enhanced by allowing the operator to opt for an additional 83 kg counterweight. For a wider working range, the ViO17 has an extended digging arm as an option, making this machine especially attractive for soil leveling and infrastructure projects, as well as landscaping or urban renewal.
The barge tractor is powered by a Stage V-compliant three-cylinder direct-injection diesel engine. It is the 3TNV70-XBV from the acclaimed TNV series. The result, according to Yanmar, is "impressive power and unmatched control," and the manufacturer is setting the standard for performance, productivity and industry-leading capabilities.
Using state-of-the-art engine technology, drivers benefit from low fuel consumption, maximum efficiency and minimal emissions. At the same time, the new generation is not only highly durable and reliable, but also surprisingly easy to maintain thanks to its removable side panels. For maximum safety, the battery and fuse boxes are housed in a lockable compartment under the driver's seat.
With a digging force of 9.6/16.1 kN (short arm/buck), a pulling force of 16.9 kN (first speed) and two travel speeds (2.1 or 4.3 km/h), the ViO17 sets the standard in performance for compact excavators, according to the manufacturer. The maximum digging depth of the barge excavator is 2,200 mm. Thanks to the ViPPS hydraulic system with three pumps, both a double piston pump and a gear pump, the ViO17 delivers a maximum hydraulic flow rate of 48.4 l/min and up to 210 bar working pressure. In addition, both the third (standard) and fourth (optional) hydraulic lines are equipped with proportional controls. For smooth and easy operation, the hydraulic system is expandable with potentiometers.
Suitable for virtually any application, the ViO17 is available with a wide range of optional extras and factory-installed attachments: from mechanical and hydraulic quick couplers to excavator buckets, ditch cleaning buckets, rippers, breakers...
Yanmar prioritizes comfort and practicality on all excavators. For maximum productivity, cabs feature an ergonomic layout with a fully adjustable suspension seat, 360-degree all-round visibility of the job site, not to mention perfectly positioned joysticks. Large optional row pedals provide even more comfort, while three bottom rollers ensure a smooth ride. The cab is equipped with an easily accessible ROPS-, TOPS- and FOPS-certified hood.
Its transport weight is less than 1,700 kg, making it easy to carry the ViO17 together with buckets or a light piece of equipment on a standard trailer. Thanks to four attachment points on the tracks, the mini excavator is quick and easy to secure.
