What a small company can be big at

Metalworking company Rijnberg excels in welding and certifications in accordance with the highest performance classes.

Consequently, the welding company is involved in a wide variety of work and, most recently, has been "a kid at home" at the New Lock in Terneuzen. A textbook example of where a small company can be big. An interview with director Bertran Rijnberg about the project, the ambitions and the newly furnished, spacious workshop.

We are relatively small in size, but big in the works we do, begins Rijnberg. "Thanks to our years of expertise in the civil engineering sector and specific (welding) certifications, we are involved in renowned infrastructure projects, such as the New Lock in Terneuzen by contractor combination Sassevaart. We are authorized to realize constructions in accordance with NEN-EN 1090-2 execution class 3 and that makes us perfectly competitive with the "big names" in our industry. We recently passed the re-inspection flawlessly. Incidentally, this year we are also auditing for Safety Ladder Step 3 and VCA ** and are working on certification for execution class 4, the highest level in NEN-EN 1090-2."

Prefab

"Contractor combination Sassevaart approached us to perform a large number of welding and assembly activities at the New Lock," Rijnberg continued. "The project has been running for us for some time. Just recently we completed 800 meters of purlins and 430 anchor seats in accordance with the required conditions (NEN-EN 1090-2 performance class 3 and ROK1.3) for the primary flood barrier. The components were prefabricated in our own workshop as much as possible. This also applies to the double box girders for the cofferdam. These were even inspected in our workshop before we placed them on site." According to Rijnberg, a lot of efficiency can be gained by preparing parts prefabricated. "We have therefore invested heavily over the past year in setting up our new 600 m² with an outdoor area of another 2,000 m²."

According to Rijnberg, the strength of the certified welding company lies mainly in thinking along with the client. "We do what we promise. Flexibly and quickly. Safety, the well-being of our people and the environment have top priority. In addition to large projects, we are also happy to take care of or supervise small(er) projects."
