With all machine shows around the world cancelled or postponed, Engcon chose to host its own digital live show. This way the most important products could still be demonstrated. The product demonstration was recorded on the "exhibition grounds" at the headquarters in Strömsund, Sweden, with the live broadcast being done by Engcon employees in each home market.
Attending trade shows and organizing demo days is very important for Engcon to get closer to customers. For our technical products that make the work of excavators more efficient, demonstrations and being able to try them out for yourself are crucial. But COVID-19 resulted in trade shows and demonstrations around the world being canceled or postponed. Engcon's digital trade show was a way to meet that need, even in times of social distancing. Consequently, there was a lot of interest from excavators.
"We see that excavation work continues around the world, even in these turbulent times. A live broadcast about products that can simplify the work of excavators is of course a nice break from the daily work. The chat feature allowed viewers to communicate directly with us, in their own language and with their local Engcon office," says Ulrica Hellström, Marketing Manager at Engcon. She continues:
"We set up an exhibition area in Strömsund at our production site. There we demonstrated our products in a demo with an excavator. We connected our local sales and service teams in different countries to the studio in Sweden and broadcast everything via Facebook Live. So French-speaking excavators got a French presentation from our French colleagues, and that's how this worked for all our markets. After all, it is important to maintain our local and customer-oriented relationship.
The organization was time-consuming, but afterwards, with any minor adjustments, the live show could be broadcast in all countries where Engcon is represented, together with the relevant Engcon teams. The first international digital live show took place in the United Kingdom, on June 14 at 8 p.m. (CEST).
"In competition with the beautiful weather, 220 people participated in the live chat, but later as many as 7,300 people watched the broadcast. This resulted in initial sales the very next week. All of Engcon's Facebook pages got a boost, with new followers and lots of positive feedback from the industry."
"Internally, expectations for the first live broadcast were cautious, but the positive feedback from viewers gives us the impetus to further digitalize our marketing. Engcon intends to continue using this technology, for example, to distribute product launches on a large scale," concludes Ulrica Hellström."
A total of 24,000 people participated in the initiative called "Engcon 360."
