Scania 540 S wins convincingly in comparative press tests

The results of the 1000 Punkte Test (1000-point test) and the European Truck Challenge (ETC) have now been published, and Scania's 540 S tractor came out on top in both by a wide margin, compared to leading competitors.

"Winning these comparative tests is yet another proof of Scania's leading position in the industry," said Stefan Dorski, Senior Vice President and Head of Scania Trucks. "When independent and experienced journalists assess all relevant aspects of our products with scientific methods and compare them to our peers, the results tell a story that is highly relevant to potential truck buyers."

The 1000-point and ETC tests are among the most renowned comparative tests for commercial heavy trucks in the world. They are organized by German trade magazines with the participation of experienced journalists from other countries. The tests assess cabin-related features such as the driver's environment, sleeping comfort and noise levels, as well as other aspects such as road handling, shifting and serviceability. In addition, the trucks drive more than 300 km on different types of public roads, equipped with calibrated fuel measuring devices to determine actual fuel consumption with the highest accuracy. Each aspect is then given a score that contributes to the final result of each truck.

"In both tests we receive the highest overall score, but personally I am most proud of the fact that our truck has the lowest fuel consumption while offering the highest average speed," Dorski said. "It highlights the transport efficiency peculiar to Scania. And our customers will not only benefit from the excellent result, but it also makes a significant contribution - here and now - to the fight against the climate challenge because of the CO2 emissions the world is facing."

The 1000-point test was organized by Michael Kern and has been published in several trade journals, including "Lastauto Omnibus." The ETC was organized by Hans-Jürgen Wildhage and has been published in "KFZ Anzeiger" and several other magazines. The Scania 540 S, MAN TGX 18.510 BLS and Mercedes Actros 1853 LS participated in the 1000-point test, which took place in October 2020. The DAF XF 530, Scania 540 S, MAN TGX 18.510 BLS and Mercedes Actros 1853 LS participated in the ETC test in November 2020. All major European manufacturers were invited to both tests.
