As one of the subsidiaries of Weerts Group, Weerts Supply Chain (WSC) has become a fixture in the logistics sector over the past decades. From its headquarters in Tongeren, WSC provides transport, warehousing and logistics services to entrepreneurs in Belgium, and soon abroad. CEO Didier Weerts shows us around an established company with a refreshing start-up mentality.

Food companies, manufacturers of electronics and household appliances, industrial players, producers of consumer goods... The WSC team rushes to the aid of companies looking for sustainable and future-proof transport and logistics solutions. "As a family market player, we combine warm corporate values, high service levels and technological innovation," said Didier. 

"When two of my father's brothers started WSC in the 1960s, the focus was on providing transportation solutions. Anno 2023, we run a company that covers the entire logistics spectrum, from warehousing to transportation and value added logistics. Pre- and post-assembly, track & trace services, just-in-time order preparation, process optimization... For each niche activity, we have the necessary expertise and experience on board."

Refreshing start-up mentality

Thanks to a true start-up mentality, Didier and his team continue to invest in business processes and projects that offer clients real added value. "New technologies are our ally here," said Didier. "For example, we developed our own warehouse management system that controls all the movement of goods in our warehouses, allowing us to move and communicate quickly with our customers. With our own technology department and a culture of continuous improvement, we want to continue to focus on process automation, robotization, automated guided vehicles in warehousing and other ways to maximize the efficiency of our warehouses - some of which are high-rise. By the way, our passion for ESG fits perfectly into this picture." 

ESG as a common thread

WSC takes the crown when it comes to corporate sustainability. The company uses renewable energy and this year established the Weerts Energy division. WSC also uses sustainable construction techniques for its real estate projects and the group also focuses on social projects. "Because we not only take care of our external partners, but are also enormously committed to our own employees, our company won the Logistics Employer of the Year Award in 2020. That award has been given a prominent place in our company. It encourages us every day to put WSC further on the map in the logistics field. Literally and figuratively! That map is going to expand greatly in the coming months and years, by the way, with the start-up of several new logistics distribution centers." ■
