Neele-Vat Logistics to City terminal

On January 17, Neele-Vat Logistics and the Port of Rotterdam Authority signed a contract for the development of a distribution center on the last vacant lot of the City Terminal on the Eemhaven at Heijplaat-Rotterdam. The logistics service provider will use the distribution center for "cross-docking. That is unloading cargo from an incoming transport unit and then combining and loading cargo onto an outgoing transport unit, virtually without intermediate storage.

"A number of major shortsea shipping companies have indicated they see added value in a cross-dock facility. The agreement fits into the further development of the City terminal into Europe's multimodal shortsea hub and continental cluster," said Emile Hoogsteden, director of Containers, breakbulk and logistics at the Port Authority.

"Neele-Vat Logistics wants a warehouse area of about 10,000 m2 of storage capacity and 60 dock doors and a throughput of about 50,000 containers per year. We will probably start construction of the center next year and expect to start distribution in 2021," said Cuno Vat, CEO of Neele-Vat Logistics.

Neele-Vat Logistics
Neele-Vat Logistics is a well-known Rotterdam-based logistics service provider. The family business provides transport, forwarding and customs services in addition to warehousing. With branches in Hoogvliet, Zwijndrecht, Botlek, Albrandswaard and the Maasvlakte, it offers its customers a full range of modern logistics services. The investment in 'cross-docking' at the City terminal fits in with the vision of handling cargo flows efficiently and sustainably together with its customers.

City terminal
The City terminal is steadily developing into the second major container location in Rotterdam with logistics parties such as SCA (break bulk), RST/Steinweg (containers) RSC (train terminal), Kramer (container repair and storage), MRS
(container services) and Kloosterboer (refrigerated cargo). Work is currently underway on the establishment of a new stack area for RSC, the further expansion of the truckgate and the construction of a quay wall for Kramer. The Port Authority is investing a total of about 60 million euros in the City Terminal, the port business community about 160 million euros.
