Goal: Increase deployment opportunities for electric trucks
DAF Trucks joins the HDV Booking consortium, which is working on a platform for reserving public truck charging stations in Europe. This will further increase the deployability of DAF's all-electric trucks, especially for long-haul transport.
HDV Booking is a new consortium whose members include charging facility providers, card-reading systems, carriers and software developers. It is working on a platform for carriers to find and reserve available charging stations. This will help determine the most efficient schedule and route for electric vehicles. Properly planning charging reduces waiting times and allows for longer, even international routes. HDV Booking aims to be operational throughout Europe during 2026.
"For a well-functioning and effective booking system, electric vehicles, charging stations and planning software must be connected," said Bart Bosmans, Director of Marketing & Sales and member of the Board of Management of DAF Trucks.
"By further taking into account congestion and driver driving and rest times, among other factors, public charging infrastructure and electric trucks can be optimally deployed."
With the XD and XF Electric, DAF has the perfect trucks for even the long haul, thanks to a "zero emission" range of up to 500 km. This can be further increased to 1,000 kilometers per day by recharging the battery packs during the driver's break, for example. "Understanding the availability of public charging stations means an important step for the deployment of electric trucks for long-distance transport," Bart Bosmans emphasizes. "The fact that DAF is joining HDV Booking also underlines our position as a partner in the energy transition. After all, in addition to a full program of electric trucks, we also offer our customers charging stations, specialized advice and targeted training."
