Volvo Trucks is once again the market leader in electric trucks in the Netherlands. Thanks to a broad and available product portfolio, customized solutions, extensive knowledge and experience within the dealer network, and intensive collaboration with bodybuilders, many transport companies opted for electric Volvo trucks again in 2025.
In 2025, the number of battery-electric Volvo trucks in the Netherlands grew in a variety of areas of application: from urban distribution and waste collection to construction logistics and national deployment. With a market share of 31.41% (source: RDC, reference date 01-01-2026), Volvo Trucks maintains its market leadership in electric trucks. The brand excels in box trucks, garbage trucks, construction vehicles, and other solutions for emission-free deployment.
“We are proud of our customers who have placed their trust in us and that we can work with them to accelerate the transition to electric driving. Thanks to our broad portfolio, the many factory options, and specific customized solutions, we can—together with the expertise of our extensive dealer network and strong collaboration with our bodybuilding partners—meet virtually any need with electric vehicles,” says Jan Schouten, Energy Transition Manager at Volvo Trucks Netherlands.
He continues: “The energy transition is now really gaining momentum. Of all the electric trucks that have been registered in the Netherlands since the beginning, almost 40% of them will be registered in 2025. Subsidy schemes available from the Dutch government, such as AanZET, are contributing to this. We are also seeing that the truck tax being introduced in the Netherlands this year is playing a major role in the decision to drive electric.”

Since their introduction in 2019, Volvo's electric trucks have driven more than 250 million kilometers in commercial freight transport worldwide—experience that is used daily to further optimize the uptime, safety, and efficiency of the vehicles. Dutch transport companies are contributing significantly to this: they have now driven more than 50 million kilometers with their electric Volvo trucks.
“A number of our Dutch customers have electric trucks with more than 400,000 kilometers on the clock. With support from our dealer network and Volvo Connect services, transport companies are able to use their electric trucks more and more effectively—some are now achieving annual mileage of 175,000 kilometers,” says Jan Schouten.

Volvo Trucks introduced the Volvo FL Electric and FE Electric in 2019 and became the first OEM to start series production of electric trucks. The product range was expanded in 2022 with electric trucks for heavier-duty applications. In 2024, the Volvo FH Aero Electric and FM Low Entry were added to the range.
In 2026, Volvo Trucks will further expand its already extensive electric range. The Volvo FH Aero Electric with extended range offers a range of up to approximately 600 kilometers, making it ideal for national and international applications. In addition, the 14-ton Volvo FL Electric was recently announced: an agile entry-level version for inner-city distribution, with various battery and axle configurations.

In addition to its market leadership in electric trucks, Volvo Trucks will also maintain its position as market leader in (bio)LNG trucks in 2025. Looking at all powertrains, Volvo Trucks will also be the market leader in the construction segment and in rigid trucks in 2025.
It underscores Volvo Trucks' strength as a versatile partner for transport solutions, with innovation and customization at its core. Customers can count on a complete range of products that meet a wide variety of application areas and sustainability goals.
