Cooperation with Strukton Civiel for third phase road structure Eindhoven Northwest

Monday, Nov. 9, the Municipality of Eindhoven signed the cooperation agreement with construction company Strukton Civiel for the construction of the third phase of the road structure in Eindhoven Northwest. The third phase involves the underpass of a newly constructed road under the A2/N2 to the traffic circle at the GDC Acht business park.

Underpass

With this underpass, which is only intended for motorized traffic, GDC Acht is better and faster accessible. There will be a better connection with the slip roads to the A58 in Best. GDC Acht is thus less dependent on the A2/N2 alone. After the signing, the construction team (a collaboration between the municipality and Strukton Civiel) will start the preparatory work, such as working out the design. The work outside will start in 2022 and be completed no later than 2023. In the summer of 2022, the A2/N2 will be temporarily partially closed for the construction of the underpass. Through clever phasing, two-way traffic on the national highway will always remain possible.

Dirk Noordhoflaan

The road yet to be constructed between the extended Spottersweg and the traffic circle at GDC Acht will be called the Dirk Noordhoflaan. The road is named after the former Philips top executive because he meant a lot to employment in the region. Dirk Noordhof joined Philips in 1941 as an engineer. After seven years, he became chief engineer in the Main Industry Group Light. Later, as deputy director and director, respectively, he was partly responsible for the growth of that Main Industry Group. In the late 1960s, Noordhof was appointed to the Philips Board of Management. In 1971, he became vice president.

Noordhof also held several ancillary positions. For example, he was chairman of the Eindhoven Manufacturers Circle and chairman and honorary member of the Eindhoven University Fund Foundation. The aim of that fund was to promote good cooperation between industry and Eindhoven University of Technology. Since 1990, there has also been an Ir. Noordhof Prize. This is awarded annually to the best craftsman or woman in Southeast Brabant. Dirk Noordhof passed away in 2004.

Spotters Road

The work in Eindhoven Northwest will also address Spottersweg. This will be relocated and extended to the Erica in Oirschot. A connection will also be made here later with the A58 junction to be moved to the west, as part of the InnovA58 project. This new section of the Spottersweg will also be called Spottersweg. Work on Spottersweg is still part of the second phase of the road structure, as is the construction of Dirk Noordhoflaan, up to the underpass.
