Waffle manufacturer installs mobile shelving from Dexion for new frozen food warehouse

After a factory fire, the East-Flemish family company Dely Wafels chose Dexion's mobile shelving to equip its new deep-freeze warehouse. In this way, the wafer producer killed several birds with one stone: maximum storage space in a minimum area, extra energy efficiency and integrated aftercare by the Dexion team.

Dexion (Ancient Greek for "right," "correct") was founded in 1947 by Demetrius Comino. He developed the "Dexion Slotted-Angle," a solution that paved the way for adjustable storage systems and Dexion's purpose-built pallet racking and shelving systems. 

Since the beginning of 2018, Dexion has been part of the Gonvarri Material Handling Group, which also includes the leading industrial brands Constructor, Kasten, Stålteknik and Kredit.

Maximum efficiency from available space

Dexion has all the products, solutions and accessories to make the most of every corner and available square meter of a storage space. Davy Van Poucke and Ellen Tournois, the third generation of Dely Waffles, can
confirm this.

The family business started in the 1960s in Adegem, East Flanders, as a wholesaler of frozen products for both retailers and consumers. Over time, the switch was made to baking and selling frozen wafers themselves. In 2018, however, disaster struck at the Mouscron site. A severe fire destroyed the company building.

Save space and energy

A year later, construction began on new premises in Estaimpuis, still the current location. When fitting it out, the managers opted for mobile racking from Dexion, an innovative solution to save as much space and energy as possible. A total of eleven rows, each 12.5 meters high, were installed, good for 2,300 pallets.

Wide range of benefits

The racks move silently in cascade, with soft starts and stops. The forklift operator operates them via buttons on the racks or via his remote control. All movements can be tracked on the main cabinet screen outside the warehouse. And thanks to built-in light curtains and sensors, safe operation of these mobile racks is guaranteed, in full compliance with machine guidelines. The fact that Dexion manufactures the racks, trolleys, wheel sets, hardware and software all in-house is an important asset. The result?
