Since May 1, 2016, the Union Customs Code has applied in the EU. An important part of this was the replacement of all existing ICT systems to standardize procedures and data to the maximum extent possible. As part of this, Belgium Customs' new PN/TS customs system will come into force on July 1, 2024, replacing the existing 'PLDA-Goods Comptability'. Through the Inbound Release Platform, you can more easily meet that obligation.
The Inbound Release Platform (IRP) is a digital platform developed by NxtPort, a subsidiary of Port of Antwerp-Bruges. It facilitates communication between the players within the supply chain and Belgian customs. On the platform, the various actors in the inbound customs process exchange information. In addition, the IRP digitizes the complex declaration and control process for inbound goods at the port. Supporting all cargo flows (RORO, ferry, container, breakbulk and bulk) in one process, the platform forms an intermediate link between the business systems and Customs' PN/TS system for all cargo flows in the port of Antwerp-Zeebrugge and the port of Ghent.
PN/TS stands for "Presentation Notification and Temporary Storage. Specifically, the new notification system helps you register and check goods upon arrival in the EU. Because all parties involved are required to use that system, it does not always run smoothly.
The Inbound Release Platform brings relief by bundling various data elements into a correct declaration. Because the platform ensures data sharing between shipping agents, terminals and other involved players in the logistics chain, companies can more easily fulfill their obligations in a transparent and efficient process, with feasible costs and limited own investments.
The Inbound Release Platform was born out of a collaboration between NxtPort and The Way Forward, a project of Alfaport Voka to develop basic digital infrastructure in ports. Port of Antwerp-Bruges supports the project and is involved in the collaboration. North Sea Port is also putting its weight behind this collective project. For more info, please visit
