They have become the benchmark in the construction industry. Ever since their introduction, Komatsu excavators with Intelligent Machine Control have been a great success because of their higher productivity, efficiency and lower operating costs. With the arrival of the PC360LCi-11, customers can now extend these benefits to large infrastructure and earthmoving projects.
"Since the introduction of the PC210LCi-11, customers have realized the usefulness of our Intelligent Machine Control technology on construction sites where large volumes of excavation are required. Many of them have asked for a larger machine," says Rob Macintyre, Product Manager at Komatsu Europe. "With this PC360LCi-11, we can meet their wish. We are confident that this machine will also contribute to higher productivity, efficiency and lower operating costs in such applications."
The PC360LCi-11 in action.
The operating weight of the PC360LCi-11 is between 35,600 and 36,200 kg, depending on configuration. The recommended bucket capacity is 2.66 m3. The fuel-efficient EU Stage IV-compliant Komatsu SAA6D114E-6 engine delivers 202 kW / 275 hp at 1950 trn/min. Thanks to the Intelligent Machine Control system, the bucket is automatically adjusted to the digging surface and cannot go too deep. The control function automatically monitors leveling, with real-time positioning of the bucket edge in relation to the machine and work surface. The work status is instantly displayed on the control panel's multifunctional 12.1-inch color screen with no delay as with conventional sensors.
Komatsu's factory-installed, fully integrated Intelligent Machine Control system includes hydraulic cylinders with position gauges for the boom, stick and bucket. It has been developed over two machine generations by Komatsu for accurate real-time positioning of the bucket edge. The IMU (inertial measurement unit) provides precise control and determines the machine angle from gyro sensor and accelerometer data. A very powerful antenna sends the satellite signals to a GNSS receiver, which processes them and indicates the position of the machine in real time.
Fine leveling can be set very precisely via the user-friendly touch screen. The operator has real-time information on the position of the bucket edge relative to the surface, the "as built" status and an adjustable split-screen display in profile, of the terrain or in 3D. Thanks to the 3D data display on the control panel screen, tasks such as stakeout, survey and re-measurement can be reduced or even eliminated. This requires fewer people on the job site and near the machine which improves safety. The intelligent switches for switching the semi-automatic control on and off and for raising and lowering the offset are fully integrated into the joysticks. This offers the operator even more efficiency and safety.
The biggest advantage of the updated PC360LCi-11 is the combination of the high productivity of the hydraulic excavator and the exceptional precision of Komatsu's Intelligent Machine Control system. This is achieved through the powerful hydraulics and breaking force when digging, fast turnaround times when loading trucks and automatic leveling in one work cycle.
