New business in asset management

Providing continuous insight into levee monitoring, 24/7 real-time monitoring of the vibration level of fans in tunnels, mapping the longitudinal and transverse flatness on roads from a 3D scan in accordance with CROW standards. These are just a few examples of questions Asset.Insight faces. At the end of 2018, several VolkerWessels measurement and inspection companies merged under the name Asset.Insight. The new company inspects, measures, monitors and predicts the quality of assets in the areas of rail, roads, water and industry.

This new company, part of VolkerWessels, is active in asset management in the fields of rail, roads, water and industry. Asset.Insight inspects, measures, monitors and predicts the quality of assets, all objects (not buildings) that must be professionally managed and maintained within a given area. This makes it possible to spot incipient defects earlier and intervene early. This increases safety, and saves costs.

Bundled strength

"At the end of 2018, three VolkerWessels companies joined forces: namely Inspectation and Data Science from VolkerRail, Pavement Monitoring & Consulting from Aveco de Bondt and Tecson Inspections from MJ Oomen," says Michiel Dop, account manager for Dry Infrastructure at Asset.Insight. "We work from Nieuwegein, basically as a data analysis department. In doing so, we use innovative techniques such as 3D laser scans, 360-degree photos, 3D point clouds and predictive models. We also develop algorithms for targeted road maintenance and analyzing tree areas such as tree height, trunk thickness. Each tree is thus given a unique ID."

Through inspections and road measurements, Asset.Insight provides advice.

Government and business

Clients are parties who deal with/are responsible for objects in public space. For example, provinces, municipalities, Rijkswaterstaat and water boards. But also port companies and road construction contractors who nowadays more often have a maintenance or result obligation.

Distinguished by demand-oriented work

Dop: "What distinguishes us from similar companies is that we can inspect and monitor everything in the public space and work in a solution-oriented manner. In doing so, we base ourselves entirely on the client's questions. This is a different, innovative way of working with often more appropriate solutions."

Monitoring and predictive modeling

Asset.Insight is seeing increasing demand for monitoring and predictive modeling. "Our clients have a greater need for insight related to maintenance. Many roads and engineering structures in the Netherlands were constructed between 1950 and 1970. This means that numerous objects are now at the end of their lifespan and need to be monitored more specifically for maintenance and replacement. We are of course happy to cooperate in this," Dop explains.
