Amsterdam Logistic Cityhub is a project of extremes. The multi-level distribution center has a gigantic size, but its sophisticated design also makes it easy to rearrange. It was also a project of extremes for Preco. Indeed, the total supplier of precast concrete delivered here for the first time hollow-core slabs in a thickness of 500 millimeters. Preco is the only party in the Netherlands to produce such a format. But the "order" from Bouwbedrijf Vrolijk was even bigger.
"We supplied over 127,000 m2 of hollow-core slabs for Amsterdam Logistic Cityhub, in various thicknesses ranging from 320 to 500 millimeters," says Gilian van Lith, project manager at Preco. "The proportion of extreme format hollow-core slabs was quite large. It involved a total of some 60,000 m2, including lengths of as much as 19.5 meters."
In addition to the hollow-core slabs, Preco also supplied a large series (6,500 m2) of precast sandwich panels and so-called "dock levellers" for the second floor of the multi-level distribution center. Van Lith: "A dock leveller is usually cast in situ. On the second floor, this was not possible and we made 110 prefab dock trays. Prefabricated wide slab floors were installed on these, which we also supplied, as well as the P&T elements. In addition, we supplied all the stairs and landings for the project. All in all, a huge job in which we produced far ahead. In fact, the project was assembled incredibly quickly, for which three assembly crews were flown in. It was also logistically challenging. Sometimes there were days with as many as 30 to 40 transports per day. That did require the necessary coordination, but the result was worth it."
