Over forty years ago, BT Nyloplast, part of Tessenderlo Group, introduced a first run of street and sidewalk gullies. The product, as a result of customer requests, through all kinds of innovations, improvements and new insights over the years has evolved into an extremely robust solution that has no equal. So says Marco van Kraanen of BT Nyloplast. Together with his colleague Ronald Wassens, he updates us on the latest developments regarding product development and the special cooperation and partnerships in the market. For example, we work closely with plastic and concrete manufacturers, local authorities and larger distributors.
BT Nyloplast is a major player in the European market in the development and production of solutions especially for sewage systems in PVC, PP and PE, begins Ronald Wassens. "Through our internal Research & Development division, we do a lot of product development, especially also for third parties. This has to do with our production technology that lends itself to developing products even in small series. This is because the investment threshold for manufacturing new moulds is generally much lower than that for comparable solutions. That makes us unique in the market."
An important pillar for BT Nyloplast still lies in the production of street and sidewalk gullies. "We put a lot of time and energy into the development of this product group, but also into advising municipalities, prescribing bodies and parties such as engineering firms and water boards," continues Marco van Kraanen. His colleague adds: "The products we provide and solutions as we propose them, make an important contribution to a better living environment. After all, street and sidewalk gullies, for example, are responsible for collecting and draining rainwater, in other words for having and keeping dry feet and preventing flooding. We're Nature's Network."
Runoff water is collected through the gully and then infiltrated into the soil.
One of the most recent developments is the so-called OIOPUT, the solution when sewers are under pressure. Marco van Kraanen: "The OIOPUT, or the relief, inspection and unblocking pit, has sprung from the brain of our client and, together with our Research & Development division, has been further developed into the final product. If the main sewer is in overpressure (due to air or dirty water), the OIOPUT ensures that the main sewer is relieved, so that connected households do not suffer from the overpressure, i.e. do not get their feet wet. The well has now been on the market for six months and is produced in our production facility."
The OIOPUT is a great example of the strength of our organization, says Ronald Wassens. "In a time frame of only four months, the product was worked out from concept to final product, including fabrication of the mold. We have all disciplines in-house. That gives a high degree of flexibility to work with our clients to come up with the best possible design that can be mass-produced with a relatively low investment threshold.
Another development is the vertical infiltration system (V-Flow), as an alternative to horizontal infiltration crates, for example. The system provides buffering and infiltration to a great depth and is also ideally suited for application in urban areas with little inconvenience to local residents when the solution is installed."
Needless to say, BT Nyloplast also has an eye for the environment. "We make an important contribution to a better living environment," states Ronald Wassens. "For many years, our street and sidewalk gullies have been made with a significant proportion of recycled PVC, KOMO-approved as a lightweight solution for heavy traffic loads. The diversity in the product portfolio of gullies means that we can always supply one that fits the existing system. This applies to the large number of models both in sand collection capacity and type of connections. We have never had to replace a BT Nyloplast gully during renovations or reconstructions. It is truly a good and durable product that can be reused during renovations and offers a solution when replacing other materials and fabrications. This makes us a highly valued partner also precisely in renovations."
